Two Generation Approach
In aim to interrupt the cycle of poverty and increase successful educational outcomes for young children and their parents, TLC has developed, implemented and evaluated a Family Development Course focused not only on parenting tips, but also on global healthy family dynamics and connections to family support services. TLC places parents’ healthy relationships, with themselves, and their family, friends and community, at the center of optimal early development.
In addition, TLC aims to mobilize a whole family approach “to create opportunities for families by simultaneously equipping parents and kids with the tools they need to thrive while removing obstacles in their way” (“Creating Opportunity for Families a Two Generation Approach”, Anne E. Casey Foundation, Kids Count Policy Report, 2013). To that end, TLC seeks leadership partners, in Coconino and Navajo counties, particularly child care administrations, educational institutions and workforce development agencies, interested in working together to collaboratively implement a two generation educational approach unique to their community.
